Ebook About
Sometimes the best love stories come in two parts. When Felix met handsome journalist Max Travers, it was lust at first sight. It was just his luck that he then had to develop a terrible case of feelings and got his heart broken. However, two and a half years later, he’s over all of that. His job is going well, he has good friends, and he doesn’t lack for male company. Which, of course, is when Max has to come bursting back into his life.Felix Jackson will always be the one who got away to Max. He’s spent their time apart regretting his actions and hoping for a second chance. When an accident lands him in Felix’s less than tender care, Max is determined to grab this opportunity. The only problem is that Felix is equally determined that he doesn’t.From bestselling author, Lily Morton comes a story of missed opportunities, second chances, and two very stubborn men. This is the third book in the Close Proximity series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Book After Felix (Close Proximity Book 3) Review :

It’s not a surprise that Lily Morton has delivered another winner. If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I surely would because it deserves every one of them. In typical Lily fashion, the book is beautifully written with a well-crafted story, so rich in detail and complexity. The prose is crisp, evocative, and full of snark (would it be a Lily book without it?). But the best part of a Lily Morton story is the characters. They are so multi-dimensional, deep and unerringly lovable even with all of their flaws. It’s a gift to the reader when the characters wrap themselves around your heart and become precious to you, and you are so very invested in the outcome of their story. The couples are always well-matched, usually complementary pairings of two men that you would never think would work together, but they fit like the last two pieces of a puzzle. The relationships are beautifully developed in a very real way, with the challenges and insecurities that naturally come with falling in love with someone. Some characters have greater challenges to grapple with and some HEAs have a longer, winding road, but they all get there in the end. After Felix is one of those long and winding road stories for our couple, Felix and Max, and it has a very different feel to it than Lily’s other books. There’s an undercurrent of (almost) melancholy, of persistent poignancy, throughout the book. I’m not spoiling anything here (it’s in the synopsis), but we know Felix and Max get together and we know there’s a break-up that causes a significant rift between them. We also know they get a second chance, and we anxiously look forward to finding out what they do with it. If you’ve read the prior books in the Close Proximity series (Best Man and Charlie Sunshine), you've seen snippets of Max and Felix’s middle place between “Before Felix” and “After Felix”, and it’s not pretty. Whatever caused the break-up (and we don’t know what it is until this book), it’s left them both in a very bad place, one that takes 2 ½ years to bridge. With that context in mind, reading the “Before Felix” part of the book literally makes your heart hurt. You instantly fall in love with these characters (if you’ve read the prior books, you may already be in love with them), so it’s like watching an accident in slow-motion; we know they’re going to crash and burn and there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s truly heartbreaking. Things lighten in the “After Felix” section, but even then, there’s this sad recognition of missed opportunities and time wasted, but it’s accompanied by some remarkable character growth and a growing sense of acceptance by the MCs, as well as by the reader, that it’s all going to be ok.While this is a love story, it’s really an exposition on trust. How do you trust someone new when all you’ve had in the past is hurt and disappointment? How do you trust that you can settle down and live again after years of traumatic experiences? How do you trust yourself to recognize the difference between loyalty and love and not squander the latter for a misplaced view of the former? Most importantly, how do you trust that you deserve a second chance with someone you love, and how do you trust that the two of you will get it right the second time around? This book is remarkable and hits you right in the feels. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It’s written as a stand-alone and you can read it that way, but your reading experience (as explained above) will be much richer if you have the background story, context, and have met the other characters. As a side note, the enormous attention to detail given to the timeline and providing descriptions that might be considered minutia, but line up perfectly with events in the other books, is impressive. For example, in Best Man, there’s a scene where Max comes into Zeb’s agency looking disheveled and with a full messy beard. It’s during that “middle space” when Felix and Max are broken up and their interaction is nasty. There’s a description of a scene in this book in that same middle place, post-break-up, where Max is described in the same way, bearded and wild. Just perfect, detailed alignment of seemingly inconsequential facts and events that weave together in an unobtrusive way to create this highly textured, interwoven story. This whole book is remarkable in every way. Go read it - actually read the whole series if you haven’t already. And then read it again. The bar is set pretty high here, but maybe the second time around will be even better than the first.
By 76% and I was wrecked... Utterly lost and swept away, real life time and effort forgotten. But the throat clenching and the deep deep affection for these men began on the first pages.Felix and Max are amazing. I’ll need some time, but only Gabe and Dylan could possibly top this wonderful sorry. also, I am dreadfully unpresentable. I think my first tears came when I saw Max as the POV. I just knew. This book is a top read for 2020.This story had the most epic and romantic grovel in the history of second chances and I can’t think of a story to top it. Every page dropped with sentiment and sex. I couldn’t put it down, and I was torn back and forth in the best ways. Please CLONE Lily Morton so she can write even more books more quickly. She’s stolen my fictional romance loving soul.(Pls do not let this cover deter you. It’s adults and real and true and every moment made me wish I had her talent and she’d written a hundred more books
