I was SO looking forward to this story - the teaser in Protecting Elliot was intriguing and I love a silver fox MC. And I am SO disappointed. Sam is apparently a successful self-made man and single father of two, but is written as a neurotic little missy - he occasionally throws a hissy over Mathais' boorish behavior, but drops it almost immediately for little reason. And the insta-mate thing just isn't believable for 50/35 year olds. The plot is a stretch - the motivation of the two villains is identical - unrequited love gone mad - and their behavior pretty incomprehensible in both cases. But the worst thing is the writing - hackneyed phrasing and grammatical errors, poor pacing and plot loopholes abound, and I wish I had a dime for every time someone 'automatically" or "instinctively" did something - like, you know, raise their arms. I might be done automatically and instinctively buying this series. Wow. Obsessed is an excellent read. It is a great addition to The Protectors series, with its damaged characters, steamy and intense sexy times, blood and violence, traumatized and vulnerable family members, and a love story that gets you right in the gut.Not going to lie, some parts weren’t easy to read. Some of the sexy times are quite raw, and while they are passionate and giving, I did cringe a time or two. The bad guys’ psychological manipulation is disturbing and made me wonder how the author could come up with such an ominous character. The danger to the children was the worst for me, though. Especially the youngest, who is a sweet and charismatic character.The suspense and action are well written, utilizing old friends from previous books. It was good to see them and know they are still doing well.Matias is a good, strong character, and my heart broke for him as his past was revealed.Sam is a sweetheart. The confusion and stress he suffers as he gets to know Matias feel so real.I enjoyed this book. Start to finish. I am confident and satisfied with the HEA and look forward to seeing more of the entire family in future books.
