Readers who did not read the first book should not read this one first. This book will not be nearly as good if you don't first understand the depth of the relationships described in the first book.This book is well worth reading. IMO best drama in 2018. The characters pop off the page into your heart as they suck every bit of sympathy, encouragement, despair, courage and love from you. You just want to give Sabine and Rebecca a hug and tell them how much you admire their perseverance and to not lose hope. You know they can do it!This second book is, as Sabine in all her nerdiness might say, 97.4% angst. I feel a little cheated that I didn't get to read more of the positive/banter interactions between them - that I really wanted to read - it just skips to the end. I don't want to give it away, but maybe you'll see what I mean.Can we petition for a third book that could tie off Sabine's service/civilian career/PTSD update and significant events for her/Bec and the other secondary characters?I think this series would make a wonderful movie too! I read the first book twice and upped my rating the second time. This book is not an easy read. It deals with some very difficult things but was fantastically written. It’s heart wrenching to watch the love of your life in anguish with the feeling that nothing you do is helping. It’s heart wrenching knowing exactly what Sabine is going through and trying so hard to get past it on her own. We need people. As much as we want to fix things ourselves, we need people that love us unconditionally in our lives. Those that would try to do everything in their power to help you. Sabine was so lucky she had someone exactly like that in Rebecca, no matter how far she feel. I usually reserve 5 stats for books I’d read again. I’m not sure I could read this again, but I felt it was an outstanding book dealing with a very difficult subject. PTSD is real and you never know who could be dealing with it around you. Just remember to be kind to people because you have no idea what they could be going through.
